Topic of Research Seminar: Electric Vehicles and the Green Transition: Fact or Fiction?
Abstract: Reducing green house gas emission and air pollution through electrification process is an important pillar of the green transition. But the transition to electic vehicles portends major challenges to the society, as the current battery/supercapacitor technology is facing significant issues related to raw materials, performance and safety. The electrolytes of our modern, omnipresent, batteries/supercapacitors contain flammable organic solvents and fluorinated salts that are toxic and can catch fire without any warning. Lets explore the realities and misconceptions about batteries/supercapacitors, electric vehicles and the green transition, as well as their impacts of safety and environmental sustainability.
