Seminars and Workshops Flow Chemistry: Enabling Efficient Fabrication of Materials and Their Sustainable Applications

Topic of Research Seminar: Flow Chemistry: Enabling Efficient Fabrication of Materials and Their Sustainable Applications

Abstract: Flow chemistry is the study and development of chemical processes in which reactants are mixed by pumping fluids through tubes at predetermined rates. Compared to batch syntheses, continuous flow syntheses provide numerous advantages, including good efficiency, repeatability, safety and so on. In this presentation, tubular reactor strategy will be conferred to perform polymerization via continuous flow process to produce polymers with desired properties. For example, conventional precipitation polymerization of polyurea (PU) synthesis was converted to interfacial polymerization via flow chemistry and hierarchically porous and uniform PU microspheres were prepared by the reaction of toluene diisocyanate and water. The obtained PU microspheres were used to immobilize metallic nanoparticles to get hybrid composite materials as catalyst for sustainable environmental remediation. Moreover, it has been challenging to get highly isotactic synthetic polymers such as poly(vinyl ethers) via batch polymerization. Flow chemistry enable to get highly isotactic isobutyl vinyl ethers (IBVE). In summary, following are the main points of this lecture:

  1. Product and process design
  2. Flow chemistry for the synthesis of PU microspheres
  3. Immobilization of metallic nanoparticles on PU microspheres to get hybrid composite and their sustainable applications for environmental remediation
  4. Flow chemistry for stereoselective polymerization
  5. Future perspective
