Abstract: Annually 350 Million Tons of waste is generated globally, out of which, 35% from single-use plastic. Pakistan alone produces 3.3 Million Tons of plastic waste that is equivalent to height of two K2 mountains. The aim of Single-Use Plastics (Prohibition) Regulations 2023 is to fight littering and prevent carcinogenic and problematic plastic items from entering the market.

Dr. Zaigham Abbas is Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and is working in International Cooperation Wing of Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination since October 2005. Currently, Dr Abbas is member/ co-chair of Plastic Waste Partnership from Asia Pacific Region of Basel Convention and Member of Chemical Review Committee of Rotterdam Convention. Dr. Abbas is also associated with research work and have about 10 national and international publications in the field of chemicals and wastes.
