Topic of Research Seminar: Nonlinear controller design for a dynamical system

Abstract: All the real world dynamical systems are nonlinear in nature. To simplify the analysis, most of the systems can be approximated by a linear counterpart which binds us to study the behavior of the system near the operating point. However, not all nonlinear systems can have a linear approximation. To study global behavior, we need to explore the actual system without linearization. In this case we have to apply nonlinear analysis and design techniques. Lyapunov theory helps in designing the control algorithms for stabilizing the nonlinear systems at a point of our interest. This becomes a tracking problem. In this lecture we will explore why we need to design a controller. The plus and minus points of linearization. How to design a nonlinear controller for various applications. Some of the applications I’m working on, include biomedical (control of insulin-sugar level, that of HIV, Cancer, Chemotherapy, Anesthesia, TB, Brain Tumor, Leukemia, COVID-19, Prostate Cancer etc), control of magnetic levitation system, managed pressure drilling, Hybrid energy storage system, hybrid electric vehicle (plug-in HEVs, Fuel cell HEVs, PV based HEVs), control of EV charger, DC microgrids, charging through wireless power transmission and many more.
